It will travel approximately 90,000 miles on its journey with over 7,500 Batonbearers trusted with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the baton in their community.

As The Baton travels through each of the different , it provides an opportunity to pray for each of the Commonwealth Nations and Territories, as The Baton moves through each of the different places, recognising that many of The Commonwealth Nations make up the vibrant and flamboyant cultural community that is Birmingham.

World Prayer Centre, Birmingham has put together a Prayer Diary which gives you the route of The Baton and some prayer points for each of the nations. We are grateful to be able to draw from information from our friends in Operation World, Prayercast, Open Doors and other World Prayer Centre contacts in many of the different nations. This is a free resource for use across the globe to pray and bless The Commonwealth, praying in tandem with The Queen’s Baton as it travels over the 269 days.

9 October – Cyprus

Pray for: a shattering of bitterness and prejudice between Greek and Turkish Cypriots; for discipleship, spiritual maturity and bold witnesses among ethnic minority believers; for a lasting positive legacy of the Commonwealth Games for the young people of Cyprus

12 October – Malta

Pray for: the deeply religious majority to gain a living relationship with Christ in light of its history as the first European nation to embrace Christianity after the Apostle Paul was shipwrecked there; for an effective witness to Libyan and Tunisian immigrants; pray for revival among the young people of Malta.

16 October – Nigeria

Pray for: the dismantling of widespread corruption which cripples all levels of society – especially the government and within the church; for increasingly persecuted Christians (it is #9 on the Open Doors World Watch List) in Islamicized northern states to be characterized by supernatural love and forgiveness, and for the Nigerian Church to remain true to the teachings of Christ in light of false and tribal practices.

Keep checking back as we update the prayer points for the forthcoming nations!
