National Update: Persisting in Prayer It is so faith-building that the story told by Jesus of the persistent widow is recorded for us in the bible! Let’s remember that he told that story ‘so that we should always pray and not give up’ Luke 18:1. ‘And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice and quickly’ Luke 18:7-8. So many areas that we need to see justice and breakthrough - let’s keep on keeping on! Gathering for Racial Justice, July 3rd in Parliament Square. Thanks to all who joined in with our canopy of worship and prayer. Those that met had a tremendous sense of joy, fun, fellowship, sensing a very unique spiritual atmosphere. After the short talks – they prayed – using The Lord’s Prayer: they ‘took the knee’ which came out of The Civil Rights Movement with Martin Luther King in the 1960’s symbolizing liberty, civil disobedience and prayer. Following that they marched on to Trafalgar square, stopping outside No.10 Downing Street on the way, being accompanied by drummers. It was all very peaceful. The petition asking that the Government will implement all the recommendations of successive inquiries from the Stephen Lawrence enquiry in 1999 to the present day has now been presented. Let’s pray for all those who will consider this, that there will be strong collaborative cross-party working and that the Government will step up to bring justice. Pray also for the conversations about this issue taking place among church leaders, government leaders and business leaders seeking to bring justice. Brexit – there are very significant face to face talks taking place now through to the end of August, negotiating our withdrawal from the European Union. David Frost is our key front person, Europe Adviser and Chief Negotiator of Task Force Europe. There are a number of rounds of weeklong talks with the final round scheduled for 17 August. On the agenda are governance, fisheries, trade in goods, trade in services, criminal law and judicial cooperation, energy and transport, participation in EU programmes such as science research, and continued mobility of social benefits for EU citizens in the UK and British citizens in the EU. We continue to pray for His will to be done and His Kingdom to come. Home Abortions have been allowed under the new lockdown laws. There will be a judicial review about whether this should continue – we believe around the 26/27 July. Let’s pray for our MPs and all elected representatives for God’s wisdom, especially for those who hold a pro-life position and for organisations who are mobilising prayer and advocacy. CARE’s Ten Ways to Pray for Life will also give you additional ideas of things to pray for on this front. Black Country Blessing - Leaders in the Black Country have produced a fantastic video We Are One - an original Black Country Blessing with almost one hundred singers, musicians, dancers and visual artists from all four boroughs of the Black Country written by Chris Eaton especially for the Black Country Church.
