Resources Articles Climate Change and the purposes of God Psalm 148: ‘Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens’ (1). ‘Praise the Lord from the earth’ (7)…’kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and maidens, old men and children’ (11-12)… Let them praise the name of the Lord (13) In the past few months, WPC has been asking the Lord what we need to understand, and how to pray into and about the important issue of climate change as the date of the UN COP26 approaches. The issues are complex and are proving to be divisive within the body of Christ and in society and many nations. What is the Word of the Lord for COP26? We have asked Peter Carruthers to offer his reflections and insights to help us as we pray to see His will be done and His Kingdom come. Read Peter Carruthers article. A wonderful relational unity has been developing between a number of organisations and networks in Glasgow, Scotland and across the UK, all with their different foci, to enable teaching to be accessed, prayer and worship mobilised so that we see God’s purposes and plans are delivered in the run up to, during and beyond the UN Climate Change conference 2021 (COP26) taking place in Glasgow from 31 Oct - 12 Nov 2021. We are partnering with Pray for Scotland and YWAM – see below for more information: Let us: Worship and focus our eyes on Jesus as King (Psalm 2) and come in humility and with repentance for all that has taken place across our world to bring us to this situation. Pray from a place of faith and trust, not from a place of fear, asking for the Holy Spirit to show us what are His plans and purposes for all that is taking place. Ask for His leading as we pray for all entrusted with the responsibility to give leadership and make decisions: ‘The eyes of the world are on all of us to translate political will and positive intentions into concrete commitments and practical action, commensurate with keeping 1.5°C alive. The time is now to come together and deliver, for present and future generations’. THE RT HON ALOK SHARMA MP COP President Designate COP26, Author at UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) at the SEC – Glasgow 2021 (ukcop26.org) The eyes of the Christian world are looking to the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that He would fulfil His promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 ‘If My people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land’ (interesting that some translations end by saying ‘health to their land’). Whilst we are grateful to people from all over the world taking time to wrestle with the climate issue, we recognise that only God through Christ Jesus can heal the human heart, heal a family, heal a community and bring health to the land.
